Cedar Rapids Shredder Debuts Local-Infused Hard Rock Music Video
Cedar Rapids‐area guitarist Dave Paris has just released a music video for the song “Author of Fate” from his “Jury of my Peers” album. The video for this instrumental guitar rock song was filmed utilizing Cedar Rapids‐area locations and with the help of Dave’s multi‐talented friends and contacts. You can watch and share this brand new video at www.daveparis.com.
With a majestic and spiritual theme, scenes were filmed at Relevant Life Ministries in downtown Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Pastor Chris Richards, a close friend of Dave’s, opened the church for the crew to utilize the sanctuary. Shots of the church’s stained glass windows transition throughout the five minute epic, while the band performs. According to Dave: “Pastor Chris and I share commonality in faith, music, and classy hairstyles, and I wanted to shoot at his church because it doesn’t look like a trendy mega‐church; there’s a history in the building that presents an air of sovereignty.”
Later in the day the crew relocated to Marion at Cast of Thousands Photography. Owners Keith and Estelle Nester supervised the usage of their studio for filming with their white infinity wall. The stationary lighting and backdrop provide a contrast to the church scenes, and feature tighter shots of the group and band members. Keith Nester, also a pastor at Marion’s United Methodist Church, has photographed Dave’s promo shots, and lent his drumming skills to two tracks on Dave’s latest album.
The original song, written by Dave, is a hard rock epic that features metal‐infused drum rhythms with ethereal prog‐metal melodies created by the eBow guitar effect. Dave can be seen in the video playing his custom‐built 7‐string guitar, co‐designed by his friend and local Cedar Rapids luthier Steve Reuter. Bass guitar duties are held by his wife and band member Barbe Paris, and while former Dave Paris Group drummer Robert L. Yoder, who recorded drums for the album recording, reprises his role behind the kit and in front of the camera. John Molseed of Pulse Magazine said: “…Author of Fate, has a big anthem sound to it…but also demonstrates that instrumentation alone, even in a rock album, can add enough gravitas to be captivating.”
“Author of Fate” was co‐directed and produced by videographer Kevin Simnacher via his company Bunny Ranch Productions. A guitarist himself, Kevin is no stranger to the art of music video creation. He can often be seen filming live shows for numerous bands in the area, and has several dozen videos of concert footage on his YouTube page.
This video is the third to represent Paris’ “Jury of my Peers” release and is a follow‐up to his “Roman’s Road” video, a song written for and inspired by his nephew Roman, who was born four months premature. Proceeds from the single were donated to charity in his honor.
“Jury of my Peers” was released in 2015 and features 13 instrumental guitar‐oriented tracks, ranging from hard/modern rock, to blues, metal, shred, and even little funk. The album has received positive reviews in the Corridor, Diana Nollen of Hoopla stated: “The entire project is a guilty pleasure of action-packed instrumentals”, and Phillip “Phillycheeze” Smith commented: ” Fresh and seriously focused, Jury of My Peers has edged its way onto my list of favorite instrumental rock albums.” Jury of my Peers and previous releases from Dave are available on iTunes, CDBaby, BandCamp, Amazon, and many other outlets.
